Why Switch to Chemical free Nail Polish

89% of 10,000 chemicals in personal care products have not been tested for safety. Chemicals and ingredients live under different laws in various countries. The European Union has banned close to 1,400 harmful chemicals and ingredients from personal care products. However, in Canada, the number of restricted ingredients is less than half that, at around 600. We need to become educated as consumers for safe beauty and understand what we put on our bodies.

Many nail polishes contain chemicals that can irritate your eyes, skin, nose, and throat, and cause a host of other health concerns. These ingredients include toluene, camphor, and acetone. Many of these ingredients are also considered endocrine disruptors, which are chemicals that can interfere with the endocrine system. These disruptions can cause birth defects, reproductive disorders, developmental disorders, or cancerous tumours. The endocrine system is made up of the pituitary gland, thyroid gland, adrenal gland, pancreas, and sexual glands. Avoid chemicals that can irritate your skin by choosing nail polishes that are chemical free.

Our new vegan, plant-based benecos 20-FREE from nail polish formulation contains at least 85% ingredients of natural origin - the source materials include wood pulp, corn, beetroot, rice, and sugar cane. We have developed the texture to be extra breathable and water-permeable, so that water and oxygen molecules also pass through the polish to the nails. In addition, the nail polish is enriched with French apple seed oil, which is a by-product of cider production and finds a fantastic use in our nail polishes - together with biotin (=vitamin H) it nourishes and gives you beautiful nails.

Happy nails are also ensured by the intense coverage, the short drying time, the beautiful shine, the excellent spreadability and of course the 20-FREE from formulation, which means that the following ingredients are NOT included:

Toluene, halogen-organic compounds, phthalates, colophony (rosin), camphor, parabens, silicones, synthetic fragrances, mineral oils, Triphenyl phosphate (TPHP), ethyl tosylamides, polyurethane, xylene, acetone, styrene/acrylates copolymer, animal derived ingredients, benzophenones (and other UV filters octocrylene, etocrylene), PEG- derivatives, nanomaterial as defined by the EU Cosmetics Regulation, acetyl tributyl citrate, solid microplastic particles.

Why we don’t include toxic ingredients.

Toluene: Extended exposure to the chemical can lead to headaches, dizziness, and in severe cases, more serious reproductive damage.

Camphor: It has been shown to cause severe skin reactions, and when inhaled severe complications, in addition to reproductive harm.

Xylene: It can cause dizziness, nausea, and vomiting.

Triphenyl phosphate: The chemical can wreak havoc on hormones and is potentially toxic to liver cells.

Ethyl tosylamide: This is a plasticiser that helps transform polish from wet to dry in minutes. This chemical has been banned from cosmetics in Europe over concerns of antibiotic resistance.

Parabens: Parabens mimics the hormone oestrogen and have been associated with breast tumours.

Acetone: The chemical if inhaled can cause a sore throat and inflammation.
